„THE SIEM TOGETHER FOUNDATION“ swings into action for BREAST CANCER PREVENTION in MAURITUS“
A deeply personal journey has sparked a powerful movement in Mauritius. When I, Laura Siem, was diagnosed with breast cancer, I experienced many of the same challenges that women here on the island face—delayed screenings, limited information, and, above all, a lack of real support. Even in Germany, I often felt completely alone. Either I made the appointment or I didn’t—no one followed up, no one checked in. It felt like nobody cared—except for my family. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. That experience opened my eyes to just how crucial real, human support is—and how deeply it’s missing for so many women. That’s what inspired me to take action and do something to change the situation here in Mauritius.
Refusing to let her struggle be in vain, Laura founded the Siem Together Foundation to change the narrative for women across the island. With the support of her husband, Marcel Siem—a professional golfer and multiple-time winner on the DP World Tour—the foundation is launching its flagship fundraising event: AfrAsia Bank Charity Classic Swing 2025.
The goal of this charity golf tournament is bold and urgent: to raise funds for early detection and awareness initiatives to combat breast cancer in Mauritius.
The Foundation’s short-term mission includes:
- Acquiring and converting containers into mobile doctor’s offices, placed in public locations like shopping centers. These will provide free screenings and consultations for women.
- Rolling out an eye-catching and emotionally impactful bathroom stall and locker room campaign, with messages designed to grab attention, encourage regular self-checks with a telephone number to reach out to for support!!!!!
Their long-term vision includes:
- Developing community-based education programs.
- Offering emotional, psychological, and financial support to breast cancer survivors and their families.
- Helping finance DIJA, the largest palliative care center in the Indian Ocean, officially greenlit by the government for launch in August 2025.
Marcel Siem, who has supported his wife during her breast cancer treatment, is committed to using his platform in professional sports to elevate the cause. “We’re not just playing golf; we’re saving lives,” he said.
The Siem Together Foundation’s core message echoes loud and clear:
“Check Yourself – Breast Cancer Doesn’t Wait – Neither Should You.”
